Time Is Flying By: So Why Are We Here?

Updated: Nov 15

Guess what? It's November, and I'm not sure if you realize this, but it's almost the end of the year. And there is a saying I've heard so much, especially since the beginning of the pandemic: "time is flying by."

Every time somebody would say this (or I would feel this!) I'd also think, "if all things serve us, then what's going on here with time going by so quickly?". Then I realized time isn't the enemy. We are. We are the enemy because we procrastinate. Our purpose is to live, experience, to bring love into our lives.

We are here to execute our ideas. We're here to work through our issues. We're here to create, and we're here to manifest our destiny. But what is the enemy of that? It's time. But only if you don't do anything. If you're jamming, in your groove, and in that beautiful zone, then you're working towards your goals. That's when we realize how unimportant time is.

It's about the action and the sentimental return on investment of that action.

It's about the action and the sentimental return on investment of that action. One of my favorite quotes is, "Trust only movement. Life happens at the level of events, not of words. Trust movement." I can't entirely agree with everything Alfred Adler said, especially about homosexuals, but I agree with this, and I believe that we innately know this to be true.

A Common Vicious Cycle

Life DOES happen at the level of events. Yes! It's what you tell your partner when they forget your birthday, "sorry's not going to cut it, buddy!" but that feeling can create a vicious cycle of self-sabotage. So often, we don't give ourselves permission to enjoy the present moment and just DO because we're so worried, anxious, and disappointed in ourselves because of how much time has gone by.

So what do we do? We continue to procrastinate. We continue to keep acting like time is against us. But time is a false construct upon which we try to build something meaningful. Our life needs to be built on a foundation of self and purpose to experience longevity, not concepts of uncompromising rigidity. Which is what the idea of time turns into.

Break The Cycle Now

So how do we break the cycle? I will now tell you something that will be hard to hear, but it's crucial for this growth process. That thing that you've been wanting to do, that you've had on your to-do list or your goals or your vision board... you could have gotten the whole thing done by now, or you could have been at least well on your way. You could have completed all those online courses you signed up for that you haven't completed by now. Or at least started.

Why? Because time flies by, baby, and that is the gift. Allow yourself to start something, be on it, put your money where your mouth is, and live your life in action. And maybe you'll surprise yourself, saying, "Wow, I'm so happy I've been moving along." As opposed to saying time is flying by, which is just code for "I haven't gotten as much done as I wanted." Go do whatever it is that you've been wanting to do.

I love you. You're amazing. You're awesome. You are already perfection. And you got this.
